Pupil Leadership

At Slade Primary School we encourage pupils to play an active and positive role in all aspects of school life.  We believe that all children should be given the opportunity to hold a position of responsibility that impacts the school as a whole and have therefore developed a range of leadership roles available to the children.

Please see below more information about our pupil leadership roles.

House Captains

The House Captains at Slade Primary School are elected at the beginning of each academic year.  Our Year 6 pupils are invited to present their reasons as to why they should be the new House Captain for their house.  The children deliver their presentation in front of the children in their house and then all of the children in the school vote for who they believe should be their next House Captain.  The process teaches all children in the school about democracy.

Pupil Council

Across the school two children from each class are voted in by their peers to be their class representative.  Pupils meet each term with our PSHCE Leader to work on identified topics in order to have an impact on the whole school.

Lunchtime Carers

Pupils in Key Stage 2 have the opportunity to apply for one of our lunchtime carers role at the beginning of the academic year.  Pupils are asked to complete an application form and are then invited to interview.  The children are guided through this process with the support of Deputy Head Teacher.  We find by asking the children to apply for the job, it helps them to develop the skills that they will need later in life when applying for jobs.  The children are then allocated a duty and are provided with full training so that they can successfully complete their role to a high standard.

Safeguarding Champions

Pupils in Year 5 and 6 have the opportunity to apply for one of our Safeguarding Champion roles at the beginning of the academic year.  Their role is to work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead to collect pupil voice and identify what is going well and what improvements can be made to ensure all children at Slade Primary School feel safe.

Librarians

Any child in Key Stage 2 can apply to become a Librarian. and support Mrs Mawson with the running of the school library at lunchtimes.  Our school librarians are fantastic at encouraging other children to use the library and develop a love of reading across the school.  The children also support Mrs Mawson with the computer system and receive full training so they are able to help children take books out of the library.

Sports Council

Pupils have the opportunity to become one of our sports council representatives who are involved in supporting the planning and promotion of sport throughout the school.  Under the guidance of the Fitness and Wellbeing Champion, they will attend regular meetings, assist with planning and delivering school sport projects and suggest ways in which sporting awareness could be developed at Slade.

Play Leaders

Pupils have the opportunity to support the organisation and delivery of active playtimes within the school.  Under the guidance of the Fitness and Wellbeing Champion, play leaders will be involved in arranging fun and inclusive lunchtime activities as well as ensuring they take responsibility for ensuring that play equipment is available for children during lunchtime and tidied away correctly afterwards.

Sports Leaders

Pupils have the opportunity to apply for the Sports Leader role which involves supporting the organisation and delivery of sports events, competitions and physical activity challenges within the school.  Under the guidance of the Fitness and Wellbeing Champion, sports leaders will promote the importance of physical activity at Slade acting as role models in the Daily Mile and Personal Fitness Challenges.
